The Indiana Crossroads Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence (ICSPI)

is a Modern Order of 21st Century Drag Nuns.

The Indiana Crossroads Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence: Abbey of the Shimmering Silo is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization having originated in Lafayette, Indiana. We are the Indiana chapter of The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.
The Sisters of Perpetual IndulgenceĀ® is a leading-edge Order of LGBTQ+ nuns. Following our first appearance in San Francisco on Easter Sunday, 1979, the Sisters have devoted ourselves to community service to those on the edges of society, promoting human rights and general outreach while upholding respect for diversity and spiritual enlightenment. We believe all people have a right to express their unique joy and beauty.

The ICSPI Sister History

(AKA SISTORY)

The "Immaculate Conception" of what has now become a state-wide Order of Queer Nuns

Our founding mother is Sister Nova Aggra, a fully professed Sister from the Eureka Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence in California. In May 2014, Sister Nova Aggra recruited a second member, and by November of that year, Novice Sister Purrr Do had been elevated and was working alongside Sister Nova to develop plans for expanding the ICS. Visibility opportunities in our rural spaces came in the form of local drag shows, small town Pride events, political rallies in the wake of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, partnerships with HIV/AIDS service organizations, and local festivals. The community embraced the fledgling ICS very quickly, recognizing us when we arrived at events, taking photos with us, and including us in invitations for public appearances. We did struggle to find committed members during our first year, but at the start of our second year, we experienced a blossoming of interest.

Between 2015 and 2016, our house continued to grow and gain visibility throughout the state as we spread JOY at local Prides, marched with community organizations at social justice rallies, the Bloomington AIDS Walk (now South Central Indiana AIDS Walk) and Indiana AIDS Walk, served as judges for local drag events, and manifested for festivals in our community. 2016 was a year of change for ICS as along with a growing membership, we also bid farewell to our founding mother, Sister Nova Aggra, who returned to California. For her travels, we prepared our first batch of Glitter, which we used to bless Sister Nova for a safe and JOYful journey to her new home.

Sister Nova carries ICS in her spirit and her heart, and we hold her dear in ours. Her inspiration continues to inform our mission, and we carry sacred relics related to her as part of our archives and our glitter. As our visibility across the state grew, more involvement came from the Indianapolis community (about an hour from our home base in Lafayette, IN). Starting in 2017, we began to rotate meetings between Indianapolis and Lafayette to allow for a more diverse membership from across the state. Nearly half of the house today lives in or around Indianapolis as well as Bloomington, and we are blessed to be able to manifest and meet across Indiana together. Through the successful employment of technology, we keep in regular contact between meetings, and we manifest as often as possible.

On August 21, 2017 (the date of a rare full eclipse!) the Indiana Crossroads Sisters were elevated from Mission status to be the 43rd Fully Professed House of Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence in the United States. Love and thanks to our community, our supportive CoMoMs, our amazing mentors and the other houses as well as Sisters who have been our guides along this magnificent journey. We love you, we appreciate all you share with us, and we hope we will have the opportunity to give back that which we have received in abundance.
